My students need glue sticks, card stock, paint and other art supplies for our upcoming school year. Art is an amazing way for students to express creativity through.
Our elementary school is located in the northern most region of Idaho. We are a remote and rural school. We are surrounded by many mountains, trees and pristine lakes. We are one of three elementary schools located in the heart of Bonners Ferry, Idaho.
Our elementary school is a small rural school with over 450 students.
We have a free and reduced rate of over 60%. We are the hub for out local Native American Tribe, the Kootenai Tribe. We have a migrant program within our school district for our migrant community that is employed at the Hops fields, located north of town.
Our town is nicknames the "friendliest Town" in Idaho. I love the fact that I can go to the local grocery store and see many of our families and students. The community support in Bonners Ferry is strong and that I why I love to live and work here.
My Project
Currently at our school our 4th grade students will no longer have music or art taught to them during the day. With the absence of our music teacher this year and art only being taught to the lower grades, the classroom teachers need to pick up the slack.
I want them to be able to express through the arts using different mediums such as watercolors, fabrics, and string art.
These mediums really stretch the students mind away from the typical coloring. Exposing students to different ways to express art will be a great experiences for them.
Our students should not have to suffer because of lack of funding.
