Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our student body is very diverse with students that are Hispanic, Native American, African American, and Caucasian. The students come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Many of our students are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with positive life experiences.

As a teacher in a low-income, high-poverty school district and Title I school, I see that my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My Project

How exciting to have books at your fingertips! Please help me give our students an exciting way to get to choose books of their very own. Many students in my classroom come in saying they have difficulty doing the daily reading log because of the lack of reading materials at home, and on their level in class.

My students need to practice their reading skills at home, reading to themselves, and reading to someone.

Having these books will ensure they have a selection of books that is on their level.

Reading is the best way to improve fluency for strategies in reading other subjects such Math, Science, and Social Studies. Reading is the basic skill that students need to acquire to succeed in school. Students need literacy that is interesting to them, stories in which they feel connected with the text and have the desire of reading, and reading with love and pleasure. Students will learn, enjoy and discover that reading is amazing!
