This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My 9th Grade Health students are committed to staying hydrated throughout the day. However, what this looks like in practice at our large public high school is a whole lot of trips to the drinking fountain per class period. When students are out in the hallway, they aren't in class learning. And trips to the hallway can sometimes turn into impromptu meetings with friends and classmates that further delay learning.

My goal for the upcoming school year is to make sure every student in my class has a reusable water bottle.

To alleviate this burden in the past (and help my students stay hydrated, I have purchased a water cooler for my students to use, which dispenses chilled, filtered water. However, not all students have a water bottle they can use to fill up. I've also purchased small plastic cups, or packs of single use Costco water bottles out of pocket to distribute. My students are happy to receive these, but the expense is ongoing and the environmental impact is significant. The next time one of my students asks to go drink water, I'd love to be able to hand them a free, sturdy stainless steel straw bottle and direct them to our in-class water cooler to help them stay hydrated and keep them in class learning. We so appreciate your support with this project.
