Reusable Water Bottles for Student Hydration

Help me give my students reusable water bottles so they can stay hydrated in my classes without having to leave the room and without having to create more trash for us to take care of.

My Students

The students I have the honor of teaching every day are bright and eager learners. I teach 4tth grade English language arts in block classes that last two and a half hours. Students do their best and try to keep their energy and enthusiasm up as we work through various activities for the day. My students come from many different countries are Hispanic, African American, or Asian.

Our school falls through the cracks because we aren't quite a Title I school.

We have a large number of student that receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch. Many come from difficult family situations and deal with unique challenges in their daily lives.

Allowing students to continuously leave the classroom to get a drink of water creates distractions to other students working. With our class lasting over two hours; this is a long time to go without something to drink. Some students bring in disposable bottled water. However, these tend to make noise and are harmful for the environment.

My Project

Drinking water and keeping hydrated will allow students to focus better while learning. Students will learn the importance of why our bodies need water. Research shows when we are dehydrated "...we have more difficulty keeping our attention focused. Dehydration can impair short-term memory function and the recall of long-term memory (Gowin, 2010)

By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.

Students will learn responsibility and ownership by taking care and washing their water bottle and bringing it back to class every day. Also since we will not be using disposable water bottles, students also learn about the positive impact we are having on our environment.
