Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students need access to clean cool water to nurture their bodies and minds. Recognizing this need, our district installed automatic water refilling machines around our campus to meet this need. However, our students are still bringing commercially bottled water to use and littering our campus and neighborhood with it despite our efforts to promote a littering and recycling campaign. Our students and family don't have the means to invest in reusable water bottles that will last for years.
Having access to a stainless steel reusable water bottle will mean our students will have access to clean, cool drinking water for their bodies and help our school eliminate the pollution caused by discarded plastic bottles around our campus and neighborhood.
Our students will make posters around the campus to promote the use of refillable water. They will make video announcements and make skits about the importance of this issue. A baseline number will be recorded on Monday and then again on Friday to determine the number of bottles saved as a result of using refillable water bottles. We will post our success on our social media platform to promote and celebrate our accomplishments in keeping our bodies nurtured and protecting the environment at the same time. Students will learn about the effect of discarded plastic water bottles on our environment and have the means to prevent it in the form of using reusable water bottles.
