Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Next year will be my 34th year in education. I spent the first 15 years as a middle school language arts teacher, followed by 18 years as a district level ESL specialist. Budget cuts mean that I am going back to the classroom! I’m very excited to have my own room again, but I have nothing that I used to have all those years ago.I need help decking out my classroom!

I really want my classroom to be a calm, soothing environment in which my sixth grade ELAR students can learn.

The alternative lighting will allow me to turn off the harsh overhead lights and have a peaceful environment. I know that sixth graders can get riled up sometime, so the breathing lamp will be especially useful.The fidget toys and the desk bands will be so helpful for students who are sitting the majority of the day. I want them to be able to have an outlet for their wiggles!

I have already started collecting books for my classroom library. I want my students to be able to borrow books whenever they want to. Having a scanner will help me keep track of where the books go. Other needed items are storage for all of my supplies, podium to keep my key and mouse for my panel always within reach, and dry erase boards to check for understanding while requiring all students to participate.

I truly appreciate any and all help so that my incoming students will not even know that I haven’t had my own classroom all these years!
