Help me give my students earbuds, colored pencils, coloring books, a balance board, a step platform, hand exercisers, laminating sheets, cardstock, and reference books on restorative practices.
The requested resources will be used to create a restorative center in my classroom. The cardstock, laminating sheets, and binder rings will be used to create question stems for students to review to help them in the restorative process. The quick reference guides and books will be used to help guide me to facilitate student interactions.
Restorative practices will not be successful unless the participants are willing.
In my experience, sometimes students need time before or after a restorative talk to be receptive to having the conversation. Students may need a little space if they are not ready to interact with others. Sometimes, after a restorative talk, students may know that things are resolved with the other person but they may still need time to release the energy or emotions that occurred prior to the resolution. The handgrips, exercise stepper, and balance board will be used for students that need a physical release for them to be ready for an effective session. The earbuds, colored pencils, and coloring books will be used for students that need some space to calm down. Students have different responses to the process and these supplies will help meet the needs of all students.
