Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The student-scholars in my school are a diverse and beautiful group of young teens who are struggling; struggling with their cultural identities, personal identities, and their changing status from children to adult members of society. Oftentimes, this results in their acting out, sometimes out of fear, and sometimes just for the attention of caring adults.

By providing Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) on a school-wide level, we show these "tweens" that their good behavior will result in positive rewards of small items that they go crazy over, and that in turn makes a more positive learning environment for everyone!

The effect that a student picking a grab bag and finding a pencil, a few pieces of hard candy, earbuds, and a rubber ducky has on the rest of their peers is absolutely amazing! Students vie for the chance to earn a bag for themselves!

This project is not a single class or classroom project, unlike others I have asked you to support in the past. Instead, the materials in this project will be restocking our PBIS rewards program for our entire school - all 1,000-plus students! Each Friday during lunch, students turn in stamped pages showing their great behavior for choices of rewards.
