Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Inspire us to continue making wonderful artwork by supplying us with much needed art materials. We are running low on supplies.
My New York City elementary art students are predominantly minority and many are immigrants that are bravely adjusting to their new homes.
Many of them come from lower income and working class families. My students are inquisitive, lively, and insightful beyond their years. The teachers at the school which they attend work to provide each student with the tools and experiences they need in order to become independent, thoughtful, and well rounded individuals.
My Project
Without basic art supplies (paper, glue, paint, etc.), my students cannot continue to develop artistically. Essentials in an art room can get used up quickly when almost 400 students visit the art room each week. Some even attend art more than once a week. Supplies go quickly even when we are very careful to conserve. Students have opportunities to paint, draw, explore printmaking, create papier mache sculptures, etcetera. The requested materials will allow us to continue to making our art without skipping a beat.
School budget cuts have been especially hard on visual arts departments.
While I have obtained unique materials from unusual sources, there is no true substitute for some of the most basic of supplies like paper, glue and paint. My students will be able to continue developing their art skills and expressing themselves artistically through your support. Thank you.
