Help me give my students an organized classroom stocked with fresh supplies for our projects! We go beyond essay writing in our class to support each person's imagination and creativity in expressing what they learn.

My Project

I've been teaching for 10 years now. And if there's one thing I know for sure, it's that when you give students voice and choice in how they show what they know, they are more invested in the process and journey of learning. Part of voice and choice is giving them an array of simple creative materials that can support them in thinking 'outside of the box'.

We go through a lot of supplies in our classroom because we encourage students to use their imaginations and talents to show us what they learned about themselves, other people, and the world with each assignment.

Things like construction paper can become textured parts of a portrait of a Black historical figure; post-its are used for taking notes on important readings of W.E.B. DuBois and bell hooks, but also double as origami paper and notes of kindness between students. Having these supplies around for projects is wonderful, and it's also really special to see how they create things for themselves, each other and our classroom just for fun, which is also an integral part of our learning process.
