My Project

We are currently in the third quarter and in need of a restock of our hygiene products and a refresh of our fidgets in order to recharge our students. This is the most difficult time of year for our students as it is colder outside, and many students walk to school or take public transportation. They often rely on teachers to have hygiene products available for them to stay healthy and clean. For instance, students ask us weekly for lotion, deodorant, and period products so they can be comfortable.

When we have these supplies on hand to meet their physical needs, we can build relationships with them and see to their educational needs as well.

My students head to the fidget pocket when they arrive to math class. They enjoy picking out a different fidget each day and then they grab their folder and calculator. They are ready to learn and participate in the daily lesson. These fidgets provide social emotional support for my students, and they begin to see math class as manageable and even enjoyable.

My students come from many diverse backgrounds. They sometimes come from group homes, temporary housing, and unsafe situations. It is so heartwarming; however, to see them come together and support one another within the school building. When we can provide hygiene supplies to support their physical needs and fidgets to support their social and emotional needs, we provide them comfort and the knowledge that they are loved and accepted.
