I teach third grade at a diverse, Title I school in southwest Florida. Sixty-one percent of our students receive free or reduced price lunch. Our students come from numerous cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Through lots of hard work, our school continues to help our students succeed.
Because this is a Title I school, it is often difficult for all students to come prepared with the supplies they need.
I want to take the burden of school supplies off families that have bigger things to worry about.
My Project
Despite our high percentage of students with free/reduced lunch, most of my students DID come to school in the fall with the necessary supplies. HOWEVER, by this time of year, supplies are dwindling and replacing them is harder for families because, let's face it, there aren't all the great school supply sales now like there were over the summer!
Crayons, glue sticks, and pencils have been used up.
Scissors are lost or broken. Students have to share or go without the right colors or other items. Searching for items wastes precious learning time. New crayons, scissors, pencils, etc would be save time and make more learning possible!
