My students need a netbook computer, books about the United States, a primary resource book about Colonial America and the Magic Tree House American Revolution book.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Where is Texas? Where is Oregon? How did we become the United States of America? Where did we come from? These are questions I hear all the time from my students. Learning about history and the USA does not have to be boring!I want to provide an engaging way for students to learn about USA.
The students who attend our school are excited about learning each day!
They come to us from many different types of homes. Some students are living with extended families, single parents, or a two parent homes. Most families struggle financially, and are not able to supply school supplies for their students. This makes it difficult to complete projects in the classroom without the help of the community.
My Project
Reading the Magic Tree House nonfiction companion books will allow my students to begin learning about Colonial America. This will allow my students to learn about the early years of the United States. We will use the Primary Resource guide for Colonial America with our interactive whiteboard to support what we have read in the companion book. After reading the nonfiction companion book, students will be able to read the books about the states to find more information about each state. Students will then select a state to research on the netbook computer. After finding their information, students will create a power-point presentation to share with other students. Students will not only learn about their state but the other states that are presented to the class.
Learning about the history of the United States is important for my students.
Providing these resources for my students will allow them to research each state independently. Students will then be able to share their project with their peers.
