My Students

My classroom is a middle school special education classroom. My students are eager to learn and want to be successful. Our school is in the east end of Louisville, but many of the students I see fall under the schools 41% of free and reduced population.

Our school uses an online intervention program that the students enjoy using, but don't necessarily have access to at home.

Because my classroom is not one single room, I do not have access to a set number of computers, and the computers in the classroom are not always in the best working order, so my students frequently get frustrated.

They always enjoy the day we get to use our department's nooks, but because of their learning differences, they struggle to get all of the information they may need in one class period, so they would have to wait an entire week to get the rest, and would lose interest.

My Project

These tablets will help to make intervention time during math class easier for students. Our school uses MobyMax, an online platform that assesses and fills in gaps of essential standards. The kids love to compete for badges as they work and learn. Unfortunately, not all of my students have access to this program at home. I want to allow all students time to get on, to make progress from their own independent levels while I can work with a smaller group in class.

Independent research is also a huge reason to have tablets in my classroom!

I also teach social studies and would love for my kids to be able to research different countries and cultures. Using interactive maps on our big screen was a hit last year, why not be able to place that ability into their own hands!
