My Students

Every day my students enter the classroom ready to be accepted into the class and feel like they are a part of the community. We pride ourselves in being a diverse and accepting environment where every student feels welcome.

Skinner. I teach 5th grade to an outstanding group of students who share a passion for reading and a love of learning. I have 15 growing 5th graders who struggle to fit on my rug during reading time, yet are stubborn enough each day to make it work. I am fortunate enough that their dedication and eagerness to read has allowed them to ignore the small and worn rug and continue to enjoy the library corner.

My Project

I am requesting 1 rug that they can sit on during classroom lessons and to make themselves comfortable when they read independently. We spend a lot of the time during the day learning from each other or reading in the library corner. A new, larger rug in the classroom will benefit the class as a whole. All 15 students will be able to sit on the rug as they share their stories and their love for learning. These experiences help to create a comfortable learning community where all students feel welcome. With growing 5th graders, a love for reading in the library corner, and a new rug the class will love being able to spread out as they curl up with a good book.

With a new, larger rug, my students will have the opportunity to all sit on the rug during instruction and reading time.

Their love for reading will continue to grow as they find their comfortable space on the rug and dive deep into a good book.
