This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I work with an amazing group of third graders in an urban school district in Rochester, NY! My students are kind, compassionate, and inclusive. They are a racially diverse class and have formed amazing friendships. I love that they make everyone feel welcomed and valued.
I want my African-American students to see themselves represented in our classroom library because representation matters!
My students love to read. Our classroom library is large, but it lacks diversity. We have a small selection of books featuring African-American characters and my students would love more!
I have selected a collection of books focusing on African-American characters. Many have been written by African-American authors. In addition to helping us add diverse, new literature to our classroom library, you can also support Mahogany Books.
