Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My students are so special! I work with 22 students in a second grade inclusion classroom. All of our students work hard, regardless of their personal or academic challenges! They are resilient. This year has been very difficult for all of our students; nonetheless they persist everyday and do not give up. One thing we learned this year is the importance of kids being kids though play. Every day our students engage in free choice time; however, the selection is very limited. It's imperative my students have toys that represent them. Specifically the girls make comments about their hair and how they wish they had different "softer" hair. This is heartbreaking as everyone is beautiful and BLACK is BEAUTIFUL. I want my students to realize they are beautiful and there is not another person like them; therefore am requesting play toys that will allow my students to realize black hair and black girls are indeed beautiful. Please help support this mission!
