Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My third graders attend a Title I school, and our school supplies every child with breakfast and lunch daily. Coming from low-income families unfortunately, my students do not have as many opportunities as students in the surrounding districts.

I have 20 students who in spite of the difficulties of learning during COVID, have shown resilience and perseverance beyond what any of us could have imagined.

All of our families need extra love, education, support, and help with daily activities. Sometimes facing a hard decision choosing between the electric bill and feeding their family. My goal is to make their virtual and in-person school experience meaningful and fun while also setting high expectations while providing a safe, loving environment for all of my students. No matter their circumstances, my students have logged in every day for class. This is truly something to celebrate. Your donations mean more than you will ever fully understand!

My Project

With so many things going on in our world, our students need literature books that touch on topics such on racism, inclusion, love and compassion.

Celebrating diversity is a key way to promote, tolerate, prevent bullying, and create a welcoming classroom environment in which all students are engaged in learning.

These books will help me teach my students about inclusion, diversity and multiculturalism through reading. These books will help me with my lessons on diversity and will be used to help guide my students in their understanding about diversity. The books include characters of all colors and help my students feel important, included, and loved.

The art supplies will not only allow my students to work on their fine motor skills but help shed a light so they can see and understand the differences in cultures. Students need to feel that their very own family foods, music, culture, and family life is important enough to find in a book. More of these books need to be found in our class, but more importantly in the hands of our students. The Circuit material will be used to create visuals for lessons, label all the classroom books we have on diversity and racial equity. Students will use the water bottles and circuit materials to design themes around racial equality, representation, kindness, and inclusion. For example "YOUR WORDS MATTER". We can create images of children with different skin tone. They can use these water bottles daily in class and while testing. I want to empower students to be proud of all that they can do and who they are.
