Help me give my students books that are a reflection of them and the world they live in. We want them to read content that have characters that look like them.

My Students
Located in South West Atlanta our area holds a rich history and was once home to some of Atlanta's notable public figures. Our scholars are rebuilding the legacy and I want to help them do that by making the media center the heart of the school. In order to do that we need to make the media center fun and engaging!
My Project
My students are participating in the district wide reading initiative and have a goal to read over 800,000 minutes by the end of the summer. While we have a media center with books many of them do not represent the students in my school building. They are always asking for books with African-American characters as well as books written by African-American authors. It is understandable that they want to read content that they can relate and connect with. We are working on a culture of reading by keeping our Little Free Library full of interesting titles as well as hosting a weekly lunch and learn!
