This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are incredibly caring, helpful, and willing to challenge themselves to learn new things. They are innovative thinkers that love to work together to solve problems. We are a diverse group of third graders that thoroughly enjoy learning. I'm amazed by their ability and willingness to help each other. In addition, they love to build, create and explore scientifically and artistically. Our school is in the heart of the Western Addition/Lower Haight neighborhood of San Francisco.

My Project

This incredible collection of books will help continue to improve and elevate our classroom library. The collection features numerous fun and engaging characters that better reflect our dynamic students. Representation in literature is powerful and meaningful in the development of our students' identities and sense of place in this world. They will be used for guided reading and independent reading to deepen their comprehension and connection with literature.

In a multicultural, diverse, multifaceted society, it is vital to amplify the voices and share the stories of all.

While a lack of representation is harmful in itself, the misrepresentation of underserved communities is a significant issue with damaging consequences.
