This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Ceramic glazes are a key part of the study of the art of ceramic pottery and sculpture. Our middle school is fortunate to have a ceramics studio on campus. For several decades it was used by the nearby high school for their adult education program. I was brought in at the end of the pandemic to return access to the studio to our students and develop a program for them. We are now in our fourth year and interest and enthusiasm for the program has grown steadily. For many of my students, this is their first opportunity to work directly with this medium.
Ceramic glazes are an essential part of the process, allowing students to explore and learn about the elements of art, color, texture, and value, as well as introducing them to the disciplines of earth science and chemistry.
The glazes we are requesting provide a wide variety of colors and textures in addition to experiencing first hand the entire process.
Unfortunately, due to budget cuts we only had enough money to purchase clay this year. Replenishing our glaze inventory will give students many options in the completion of their work over the course of the year.
Any assistance in continuing and maintaining our program will be greatly appreciated by all.
