I am an educator of gifted students in grades 3 - 6. I work at four schools, two of which contain middle to low income students, with a large percentage of free and reduced lunch students.
My students are high readers and LOVE interacting with novels.
I like to provide them with challenge by selecting both novels of high interest and high reading level. Because there aren't many students in their regular classrooms that can read at the same level as they can, we pair up with students from other classes to make our own enrichment reading groups.
I joined Donors Choose so that I can continue to meet the unique reading needs of my students and because they deserve to read novels that are in good condition.
My Project
My gifted students love reading, but many of the novels in their regular ed classrooms are either not challenging enough, or not of high interest to them. I have built a library with novels that are both challenging and high interest. Due to their age, many of them have fallen into disrepair. Over the last several years I have used my own money to replenish novels that were unusable. So many of our novels are in poor shape that I can't afford to do this myself anymore.
Everyone knows and loves the smell of a brand new book and the multiple copies of the five different titles that I am requesting will delight my readers.
Students in my reading groups will love to turn the pages of a brand new novel that isn't torn up or missing sections.
