My school consists of a diverse student population, with students coming to us from places like Kathmandu and El Salvador. Being located near a military base also means that students are always coming and going. It is important to me that I provide multicultural literature to my students so they can see themselves reflected in the books and also to learn about each other and the world.
My students love coming to the media center!
They get so excited when they see new books in our school library. The school's library collection was very outdated when I came last year, so I have been working hard to give these kids great new books to enjoy. They also love coming to the library to participate in centers and makerspace activities.
At my school, it is important to provide a fun and engaging learning environment to help promote positive behaviors and attitudes. We want our students to come to school each day, feeling excited for all the learning opportunities they will encounter.
My Project
There are several book series in our media center that are beloved by students of all ages. Those books are so loved that they are now falling apart from so much use. I need to get these books replaced so my students can keep reading them.
The books I am requesting are known for creating confidence in our students who are just beginning to read.
They are considered high-interest books with a lower readability level. Many first graders become excited to get their hands on chapter books for the first time. Junie B. Jones and Captain Underpants are perfect for meeting that need.
