My Head Start Classroom is Federally funded, which means that my student's family income must be below the poverty level. This is a very low-income level, which is why it is extremely important to me that I make the 17 children's learning environment as fun, challenging, and educational as possible. The resources of the child's family are limited and I try to help make their Head Start experience an excellent one.
Head Start was created to give these low-income children an excellent educational experience before Kindergarten so they are better equipped and ready to learn.
My Project
In my classroom, some of the materials need to be renewed and refreshed. I have been a Head Start teacher for 24 years and many of my classroom materials and in need of replacement and upgrading.
My students enjoy learning and by replacing some of the materials in my class that have gotten old and faded it will enhance their learning.
I truly believe in the importance of a Head Start experience for our most vulnerable young children. The bright colors and the new things make it exciting for my students to learn and enhance their learning environment.
Items requested for my project include, "Sing-A-Long, Read-A-Long" classic CD's. How wonderful it would be for my students to be able to hear a story read to them on a CD ad be able to follow along with the story in a book.
The "Unlock Math" game would be a fun way to learn about numbers. My children love keys and locks. This game would be a fun way to match the keys and locks and to learn about numbers. The "How Long is it?" item works on measuring in an exciting way. The children are always looking for different things and different ways to measure.
The "Kid sized flashlights" help the children learn about science, tools, and technology. The new "Mailbox" is to work on the language and writing skills of my students. The children love pretend play and this would enhance that skill by creating pretend mail and sending it and receiving it. The "Tracing numbers and markers" are to work on writing numbers. The new 1" measuring cubes will help the children with measuring, counting, and sorting.
My students and their families would really appreciate these new materials!
