Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a very low-income area in Springfield, MA. Our school is a Level 3 school in need of further resources regularly. I teach an abundance of ELL students who need very hands-on language experiences. All students receive free lunch and breakfast each day. Despite many hardships, students come eager to learn and grow each day. I would like to give them the tools they need to succeed every day. With such diverse backgrounds, a classroom is a place where all of my students can feel at home.
My Project
My students have been learning remotely since the first day of school in September. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we continue to learn remotely until at least April. Although remote learning has been challenging and brand new for my students this year, they have shown so much persistence and patience. They deserve the best resources they can during these challenging times.
This school year very few of my students have turned the page of a real book!
Most of my students read digitally each day, and although this remains a great resource, they deserve books to continue to spark their joy of reading. With the collection of books in this project, I will distribute 4 books to each student in my class so that they can build their own library of books at the appropriate level for them.
