Our classroom is starting guided reading and we need materials including magnetic letters, whiteboards and center activities. This will allow my students to have a more enriched, hands-on learning experience every day. A large amount of my students need visual, hands-on tools as they are ELL learners. The magnetic letters will allow students to build, chunk and visualize new words during reading group every day. During my guided reading rotations, the variety of centers I have chosen will allow students to independently practice skills we have already practiced as a class. Additionally, the whisper phones will be used for independent reading time so that students can hear themselves read and monitor their reading on a regular basis.
The mathematics tools will allow my students to get hands-on experience every day. A tool as simple as counters can be highly effective for a student struggling to understand a concept in mathematics. Students will build, practice and solve problems using both the counters and place value blocks. These tools will allow them to understand their practice and share their thinking with others on a daily basis. They will be used during both whole group and small group math time. I want to provide exciting learning experiences for my students every day and these tools will help me do so on a regular basis.
