My Students
My students are very diverse. I am a special education teacher in an inclusion classroom setting with 12 students. There are some 2nd and 3rd-grade students. Most of them are from either Spanish or African American. Our school is a wonderful place to work and the students enjoy being here! This is a high urban poverty location inside of the projects and is in need of any help given to the students. Our classroom community is diverse in many different aspects while having a variety of needs.
Like everyone else, my students are stuck at home unable to go to school or outside to see their friends.
The parents of my students are amazing and have been logging into our remote learning classroom every day. I would like to make sure all my students have what they need for remote learning at home. My students are big on visuals and need them to see a clear picture of the lessons.
My Project
My students are in desperate need of new reading materials. I'm being pushed to do read aloud on Google Meets. I did not bring any books home with them to read when the schools abruptly closed, and those who did bring books home are in need of new materials. These books will be used to supplement remote learning and foster a love of reading. Also, the magnets and posters will help assist me in teaching better for my students.
I believe that reading is an essential skill that my students need in order to succeed in school and out of school.
Books play a vital role in the success of our students, and this project will help prevent the dreaded summer slide that happens to many students in low-income areas. These books are especially important now since it will be many more months until students are allowed back in school to use our library.
