I am a third-grade teacher in a Brooklyn Title I classroom. My students love to learn and are eager to come to school every day. School this year is different as they all have opted in for Remote Learning. When they first enter third grade, they are nervous. It is very different from second grade. They are at the half way mark of elementary school and need to become more independent to prepare for the rest of their academics.
My students love to express themselves and effectively participate in class.
They are enthusiastic and full of energy. They are always ready to go on a new learning adventure. My goal is to give the the best learning experience and make it a memorable year.
My students have diverse backgrounds and range in academic ability from non-English to advanced learners and general education as well as special education students. My students are heterogeneously grouped. I believe the more engaged my students are, the better outcomes they will have.
My Project
My students are participating in fully remote instruction for this school year. They come to my Google Meets daily. They are very creative and eager to learn; however, they lack the basic supplies to complete arts and crafts. Also, it is difficult to share through Grid View on Google Meet if they are using their notebooks to hold up to the camera and share.
Wipe off boards will be used on a daily basis.
The students can draft their ideas and take chances knowing they can easily erase their work and make changes. This will help with sharing their work and holding it up to the camera for all of us to see. Also, it will give me the opportunity to do a quick check and give instant feedback.
Third graders learn best when using art to learn other content areas. Having access to art supplies encourages their creativity. These basic supplies will help the students complete follow up activities across content areas. For example, when concluding our unit of study of Africa, the students create Biome Mobiles. They design scenes to represent the different biomes across Africa. Art supplies are needed for many topics across the curriculum.
