Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a dedicated bunch of 4th graders who believe that education is their way to better their lives. All of these students are on a free breakfast, lunch and snack program. These children have a set "safe path" to walk on to get to and from school. They know that they will be out of harms’ way when they stay on this protected path. Imagine walking to school in that manner every day? Many of these kids have perfect attendance or close to it. They know that an enriched education will help advance their futures.
These school-children have a desire to be educated in all aspects of reading especially within the fields of math and science.
They should be able to go anywhere in the world because they will have a great education, and not have to settle.
My Project
The only connection to the school, at this time, for many of my students is the free breakfast and lunch availability. My students were told of a half day the Friday before this outbreak, but then out of the blue, we were shut down "UFN", until further notice.
My students need to be educated on a daily basis with access to my lessons, as well as fun rewarding educational games.
This crisis has left most of my class in the dark because they don't have a means to get to educational programming. I keep hearing on the news about districts that are providing remote learning to their students, but my students primary concern is food and health, which our district is providing.
I want my students to have a computer for home use during this time to continue their studies. Additionally I will be able to contact parents and help them to support their child with the lessons provided. Chromebooks in the house will continue the educational aspects of my students.
