Remembering Ruby: Forever Memorializing Her Light, Love, Laughter, and Creativity.
Help me give my students the materials they need to create a large unicorn sculpture welcoming people to our school as a memorial to Ruby, a precious, gifted student who died unexpectedly at the age of 11.

My Project
Our school experienced the sudden death of Ruby, a 7th grade student who was a precious, loving, and creative light in our community. Ruby was a passionate artist and crafter, and she adored bright colors, rainbows, and unicorns! Led by my Community Action Through The Arts class, the students and staff of our school are determined to join in creating a large rainbow unicorn papier mâché sculpture that will hang suspended in our lobby to memorialize the positivity and loving energy Ruby brought to all of us each day. Our district serves 23,670 students, with 83.9% living in low-income situations and 88.9% of our families qualifying as high needs. Limited school materials funding availability has become even more restricted this year. We do not have a budget for the materials we need, and our greater community does not have resources for us to tap.
This rainbow unicorn sculpture and installation, memorializing Ruby’s life and grounded in the empathy and collaboration triggered by her loss, needs your help to become a reality.
Most of our sculpting materials come from repurposed styrofoam, plastics, cardboard, and crafting creations. However, some are only available if purchased. This DonorsChoose request supplies those necessary foundational materials.
Your generous donations will enable our school community to realize the dream of creating this powerful tribute to Ruby’s life and making her a permanent visible part of our culture and community. It will expand that sense of being part of something bigger to all students and local staff, district visitors, and families living in Springfield who come to our school to celebrate the visual and performing arts that exemplify who we are as a community of learners.
