Students are using the clothing, snacks, hygiene items, and fidget tools daily, and these resources have helped remove barriers that can make it difficult to focus in class. Whether a student needs a comfortable pair of leggings, a snack to get through the afternoon, or a fidget tool to help with concentration and emotional regulation, these items are making a meaningful difference.\r\nStudents were excited and grateful when they first saw the materials arrive. Many were especially enthusiastic about the snacks and fidget items, while others appreciated having access to basic essentials without feeling embarrassed or singled out. The Care Closet has helped create a stronger sense of comfort, dignity, and belonging within our school community.\r\nAs we continue using these resources, the next step is making the Care Closet a consistent and reliable support for students throughout the school year. We hope to continue encouraging self-advocacy, helping students recognize that it is okay to ask for support when they need it. These resources have been integrated in a way that normalizes support and reduces stigma, allowing students to access what they need discreetly and respectfully. One meaningful moment involved a student independently accessing hygiene supplies before a presentation, which helped them feel more confident and ready to participate in class.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the care closet materials, their reactions ranged from surprise to genuine appreciation. Many students immediately recognized the value of having these items available at school, and some expressed relief that support like this existed in a private and accessible way. Over time, students have become more comfortable knowing the resources are there, and it has helped create a more supportive and trusting classroom environment. Even students who are not currently using the items have expressed that it makes them feel cared for and supported by the school community.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue to maintain and normalize access to the care closet while also incorporating lessons on self-advocacy, wellness, and basic needs awareness. Students engaged in discussions and activities focused on identifying healthy routines, understanding how basic needs impact learning, and recognizing when and how to seek support for themselves or others. The goal is to continue building a classroom culture where all students feel safe, supported, and able to succeed both academically and personally.","fullyFundedDate":1773937312311,"projectUrl":"project/the-care-closet/10141501/","projectTitle":"The Care Closet","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Curley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10355174_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1773842106332","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10355174"},{"teacherId":3611517,"projectId":9809675,"letterContent":"Your donation of laser printer ink helps our students learn by giving them immediate, reliable access to printed versions of their work, practice materials, and feedback. For many of my students, this was the first time they had ever seen — let alone used — a truly innovative tool like this. Working in an underfunded inner-city school means that access to cutting-edge technology is rare, and your donation has opened a world of possibilities they never knew existed.\r\n\r\nSince the printer arrived, it has transformed the way my students learn and create. In science, they have used it to design and print animals for our ecosystems unit, allowing them to better understand adaptations, food chains, and habitats in a hands-on, deeply engaging way. They've also created custom science-themed fidgets and small incentive items, giving them a sense of ownership and pride in their learning.\r\n\r\nBeyond the academic projects, the printer has sparked genuine curiosity about engineering and design. Students often crowd around the machine, fascinated as they watch their digital ideas come to life layer by layer. Many have begun asking questions about how the software works, what coding looks like, and how machines like this are used in real careers. For students who have rarely had access to STEM tools, this exposure has been empowering and eye-opening.\r\n\r\nYour contribution has done far more than provide a piece of equipment — it has given my students inspiration, confidence, and a tangible entry point into the worlds of engineering, creativity, and innovation. The shelving units and bins have been invaluable in helping my room organization this year. We are all benefitting from the area it has allowed me to reclaim in my incredibly busy and diverse learning space.\r\n\r\nI am both a special education intervention teacher and an art teacher. The art my students produce is done collaboratively for the benefit of our school and our community. The projects are often huge, taking up much of the space in my classroom. The repurposed materials used for these projects take up an enormous amount of space as well. Last year, my room was chaotic. Many of the materials we used didn't have a place to live, and students were less able to care for and appropriately store those materials. The chaos also bled into the academic learning space I use for my intervention classes, causing my neurodivergent students to be more distracted and less settled as they often had the art materials in close enough reach to touch and play with them.\r\n\r\nThis year, as a direct result of your donations, I was able to create a distinct division in the room, art on one side and academic learning on the other side. My materials all have a home and the students have a chance to build executive function skills as they take responsibility for materials and organization. As you can see from the pictures, I not only used the shelving for storage and organization but was also able to build a cardboard wall separating the room. That strategy added display space for key anchor charts that I refer to all the time as I teach.","fullyFundedDate":1746481497832,"projectUrl":"project/from-scatter-to-structure-organization/9317633/","projectTitle":"From Scatter to Structure: Organization That Works for Every Learner","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rosie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9927073_orig.jpg?crop=595,595,x21,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1739992215469","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-catta"},{"teacherId":3611517,"projectId":9319487,"letterContent":"Thanks to the generous donation of a laser printer, our students have experienced a transformative shift in how they view and present their work. This has not only boosted their confidence but also deepened their engagement with assignments. Whether it was a Spanish vocabulary poster, a cultural brochure, or a visual presentation, students took greater pride in their work, knowing it would be displayed in full color and shared with peers and the school community.\r\nThe impact goes beyond aesthetics. Having access to color printing has allowed students to better understand visual elements, organize information more effectively, and express themselves creatively. It has also opened doors for more dynamic classroom activities, such as creating personalized learning materials, interactive bulletin boards, and collaborative projects. The laser printer has become a tool of empowerment—giving students the opportunity to produce professional-quality work and feel that their voices and ideas matter. I'm thrilled to share just how much of an impact your donation has already made in our classroom.\r\nFrom the very first day the technology arrived, the tablets have been in constant use. They've been a lifeline for students whose school-issued computers aren't functioning, allowing them to continue with research, look up music for their projects—and actually hear it! They've even used the tablets to record videos for presentations and creative assignments, which has given them a whole new level of engagement and excitement in their work.\r\nThe headphones you provided are used daily by nearly every class. Students plug them into their devices when it's time for independent work or paperwork, using music to help them focus and create a more personalized learning environment. These headphones have been so essential that students from other classrooms often come in asking to borrow them—because not every teacher has access to this kind of resource.\r\nOne of the biggest hits this year has been our new chairs, which have helped us create what the students call our \"Cozy Corner.\" This space has become a favorite, especially for my middle schoolers. More than just a comfortable seating area, it has organically developed into a \"calm-down corner\" where students can take a moment for themselves when needed. It's supporting their emotional well-being in a way that's truly priceless.\r\nMany of my students walk into school each day carrying burdens from home—whether emotional, mental, or even physical. This technology and the calming space we've built have provided them with something many of them have never had before in a school setting: a sense of safety, comfort, and control. Several students have shared that this space feels like home. They feel seen. They feel heard. And most importantly, they feel empowered.\r\nIn a district where getting funding for resources like these is nearly impossible, your donation has made what once felt out of reach completely possible.
