My Students
I work in a school where most of the population are from very low-income families. The school is a Title I school offering free breakfast and lunch to all students. All of these students hold a special place in my heart. My students come to school and work very hard each and every day.
I am so proud of the effort these students put forward to become better citizens and smarter students.
We not only teach academics, but we also focus on citizenship and respect. We take great pride in our students' ability to show respect to themselves, others and the environment around them.
My Project
Our school is located in an impoverished community, where there is extremely limited 'art'. Although students participate in art class in school, there are very few, if any murals in their neighborhoods. With this in mind, we strive to provide and accommodate students with everything they need and can imagine within our school. I believe, like Secretary Riley, that art education trains our country's youth to become productive, contributing and creative members of society. This dream project will be a special tribute to a former fourth grader who lost his life far too soon.
The Executive Director American Association of School Administrators says, "In the push for quality math, science, technical, humanities, and other programs, be sure that the arts are not ignored or pushed to one side.
Provide your political support for the total curriculum. The arts enrich all of us!"
