Help me give my students the book "Towers Falling" by Jewell Rhodes to help them understand the importance of the events of 9/11 while building reading skills.
Our students come from a small rural town in South Carolina, surrounded by farms. Our elementary school serves around 600 students from grades 4 to 6. Unfortunately, a significant portion of our students' lives has been affected by poverty, crime, and drugs. For these students, school is more than a place to learn academics; a school is a safe place where they can find love, food, understanding, and hope.
One hundred percent (100%) of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
The SC Standards for Social Studies require schools to teach students about the United States' role as a world leader before and after the 9/11 attacks. The books I am requesting will help our 5th-grade instructors to teach our young students about the terrible events of 9/11 while practicing crucial reading skills.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
