My goal as a teacher is to create a fun, supportive and engaging environment for each of my students. My classroom is made up of a diverse population of all races and academic levels. Our school is one of the only fully inclusive schools in our district. Kindness and respect is a normal occurrence in my classroom. Most of our school population comes from students living in government subsidized housing. Even though the percentage of students who qualify for free or reduced rate lunch is high, it is not high enough for us to qualify for government funding. Each student is taught that their brain is a muscle and like any muscle, it needs to exert itself to get stronger. The students make their brains stronger by accepting challenges and preserving through difficult assignments.
My Project
My students have started learning how to computer code and the Sphero robots will deliver real life examples of the possibilities of coding. The robots will create endless opportunities for STEAM education while they practice their coding skills. Computer coding teaches students problem solving, cooperation, imagination and critical thinking skills that are necessary to be successful in today's society.
21st Century Learning is here to stay and it is my duty as a teacher to get technology into the hands of my students.
The Spheros will allow me to challenge my students through creativity and play while fostering important 21st Century skills.
