My Students

Third graders are crazy about learning, and my energetic group of kiddos is no different! They are a very diverse group of 8 and 9 year-olds that include several English Language Learners. Numerous cultural backgrounds are represented, which make the class as a whole very unique and special.

Though they may face many challenges, my students are very eager to learn.

Considering their thirst for knowledge, I have no doubt that they will all be successful! These students make me proud each and every day.

My Project

My students currently have a shelf full of books, but they have difficulty finding the books that are appropriate for their independent reading levels due to a lack of organizational resources and space. We are in need of a book shelf, book bins, and a label maker to make searching for books an easy and enjoyable process. I feel that these items will cause students to be more motivated to search for books rather than avoid the library area because of frustration.

If they can easily find books on their independent reading levels, these kids can spend more time soaking in the knowledge that books have to offer.

Research shows that independent reading plays a large role in developing reading fluency, vocabulary, background knowledge, and spelling.
