This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a middle school librarian at a school with a diverse reading population. Many of my students struggle to find books that they want to finish, but manga has been a consistent avenue to engage them in reading. I have partial sets of the Naruto and My Hero Academia manga in the library, but they're so popular that they are always checked out and occasionally copies never make it back to the library shelves.

I would love to be able to offer complete long series for my students that help reinforce reading skills, visual skills, and literary analysis.

My Hero Academia and Naruto are incredibly popular manga and anime series set in Japan. Many students who have no interest in the rest of the books in the library will gravitate towards my manga section. One of the joys of working in a school library is being able to provide students with something that they love and that they would choose for themselves. I believe it promotes independence and a love of reading.
