Relieve Anxiety, Hyperactivity, Frustration, or Boredom
Help me give my students the ability to relieve anxiety, hyperactivity, frustration, and boredom in the ELA classroom by getting a class set of Bouncy Bands.
The thing I love the most about my students is their grit. My students utilize all resources available to them to be successful, even when facing issues out of their control. Many of my sixth graders have anxiety, ADHD, ADD or other unidentified health issues which proposes a problem when focusing on the English Language Arts classroom that I teach.
Flexible and sensory seating options are one resource that my students use in my class to focus on learning and lessen anxiety.
Another resource that I have in my classroom to aid in student success is my Reading Reef, where students can go to relax and reading when their anxiety is heightened. The Reading Reef has a couch, bungee chair and bean bag chair for flexible seating. Currently, I have eight bouncy bands on chairs in the classroom to help with fidgeting that goes along with ADD and ADHD. By getting 30 additional bands, I will not only be aiding my students with ADD and ADHD, but all my students that need a way to get the fidgets out.
My Project
Students will utilize Bouncy Bands as a resource to bounce their feet on to get the feeling of tension relief for anxiety, hyperactivity, frustration, or boredom. My sixth-grade students are starting to get antsy in my classroom as Spring rolls around the corner. Even though my room is set up like an ocean/beach scene, calming my students down towards the end of the day is very taxing in a room without windows. My students need some sort of relief to get their "wiggles" out. What better resource than the Bouncy Bands?
The most wonderful thing about Bouncy Bands is that I'm the only ELA teacher to use them!
"Bouncy Bands definitely helped me improve my focus in class just after one day, I could tell a huge difference!" said a student in my class with ADHD. I just recently purchased eight Bouncy Bands for my classroom with the use of extra supply money provided to the teachers by our school, to help a few of my severely wiggly kiddos. After one class period, I could see a dramatic increase in focus on classwork and readings. So much so, that even the students asked for them for all the chairs. I'm now reaching out to raise money for a class set of Bouncy Bands to help all my students be more successful in my English Language Arts class.
