My Project

In eighth grade, we read some classic novels like George Orwell's Animal Farm, S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders, and Lois Lowry's The Giver. My students enjoy these stories, and I think they provide a great foundation for high school reading. However, it would be nice to offer them a contemporary, realistic story in which they can see themselves represented. Jason Reynolds's book Look Both Ways is an engaging story that profiles ten urban middle schoolers from the time the dismissal bell rings until they get home. This book is a National Book Award Finalist and a Coretta Scott King Author Honor Book.
