Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are an IB school that has a diverse community where learning is always made relevant, inquiry is used throughout everything we do and where collaboration is constant. In doing so our learners take action and become internationally minded citizens.
Our passionate scholars are clever, creative, and curious about the world around them.
These kids take such pride at being able to change the world around them. They love sharing ideas with one another and keeping an open mind so they can gain new perspectives and appreciation for others.
These children face many challenges, both inside and outside of the classroom, and they amaze me with their positivity and persistence.
My Project
Creating a library that is filled with books that are not only at my readers' level, but also engaging and relevant to their life is critical in developing successful readers who enjoy reading. Our classroom library is a hub of excitement and adventure. It's a cozy corner with stuffed animals, benches, pillows, soft rugs. Creating this kind of environment is fundamental in creating the message that reading is important and fun. All our library needs now is to be stocked with books that our young readers can read and understand. Not only that, they need to be quality books that they enjoy and want to read.
These types of books provide readers an opportunity to draw on all that they know in order to work hard to solve tricky words.
Supporting our students' word-solving skills in a way that feels joyful and fun is extremely important in motivating them. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.
The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students continue to grow into strong, confident, and enthusiastic readers.
