Many of the students at our school do not always have the attention span, learning ability, and memory function that their peers have. This can cause anxiety and I would love to be able to provide an outlet for them that will help them focus better by calming their mind and helping them not to worry as much. I like my gym to be a safe place where the students at my school feel that they can relax, be calm and think positive thoughts.
Yoga mats will bring a sense of calm and peace to their minds, helping them to self-regulate and be positive.
This year in my schedule I had 2 x 30 minutes slots to fill with something and in collaboration with the Principal. It was decided that I would provide yoga sessions for students who may benefit. Classroom teachers send students to me during these times who need to reduce anxiety and have some quiet time. However, I have found that trying to perform their yoga on the hard gym floor is not ideal and so these yoga mats will provide a more comfortable environment and the rack will give them a sense of ownership as they enter and choose their own mat.
Not only does it reduce anxiety but through the yoga moves I can also teach mindfulness, where they learn to speak positivity into their lives and start to be aware of themselves, others and the world around them. They will be able to carry out visualization and breathing techniques as well alongside the yoga movements. Finally, not only will it benefit their brain but also their posture, endurance, strength and flexibility, things that also lead to better self-esteem and a positive outlook on their life. These mats for sure will have so many benefits.
