My Project

We call ourselves the FanClub Family and this group of 4th grade scholars are just incredible! They were kindergarteners when the Covid-19 pandemic occurred and were distanced and masked throughout their first-grade year. During their early school years when most students learn strong routines and expectations in educational settings, these students existed in an environment of survival and lacked rich educational immersion at times. Although they have not let that fact hamper their love for school, I can recognize unique differences in their attentiveness and their commitment to follow high expectations.

One classroom fact we can all agree on is that learning cannot take place in an environment lacking focus and respect.

Building motivation and managing behavior are essential roles teachers tackle each day, and I pride myself on my expertise in these roles. Although my toolbox is full of strategies and routines to support engagement and motivation, extrinsic and tangible motivators provide an additional boost. The items in my wish list such as glitter wands and mini building blocks, may not appear to be standard learning tools, yet they are as vital to learning as the all-mighty pencil. Incentives like these encourage students to engage in classroom instruction. I have utilized motivators such as these successfully for over a decade, yet the expense of these items strains my personal budget. I look forward to recognizing positive behavior and reinforcing focus and leadership in my classroom. When students are encouraged to practice focused and respectful behaviors in the classroom, minds are enriched and learning takes place in abundance.
