Reinforcing Critical Thinking Skills In Mathematics
My students need interactive math materials with visual supports that will support and reinforce critical thinking skills in solving problems. These include Fraction Dominoes, a Deluxe Probability Set and Hot Dots review cards.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"When I say college, you say ready!" "College!" "READY!!!!!!" This is our classroom chant that my students are living out daily through hard work and high expectations. These math materials will help my students who are in need of differentiated supports to achieve proficiency with rigorous content.
Many of my incoming group of 4th graders are siblings and cousins of my students last year.
I already know many of them by name and have completed home visits to get to know them and their families better. My students have a variety of hopes and dreams, but they all want to do well in school so that they have the opportunity to go to college and become doctors, FBI agents, bankers, business owners, veterinarians, and more My students attend an elementary school where 100% of the students receive Free and Reduced Lunch (federal guideline in determining poverty.) They face many challenges including absent parents, frequently relocating houses, learning English, taking care of siblings so that their parents can work two jobs, and more. However, in the face of this they are extremely resilient and come to school ready to learn. Their families are supportive and eager to do whatever they can to help their child achieve their dreams.
My Project
For this project I am requesting the following: games that require critical thinking and strategizing to reinforce the 4th grade math standards for place value/number sense, algebraic thinking, and fractions; "Hot Dots" math review (student select answers and are given immediate feedback), and materials that help students visualize probability problems.These materials will allow me to tailor my math lessons to meet individual students' needs. My students are coming in often 1-2+ years behind grade level and they are in need of intensive individualized support in order to catch up to grade level. I will be using these materials to reinforce concepts that I teach in a whole group. All materials are self correcting so that students can work independently, with partners or in small groups and have the opportunity to practice and master concepts. The materials also offer visual and tactile support which is absolutely necessary for English language learners.
When I wake up every morning at 5 AM I am motivated to get out of bed and see my students.
Even when I stay up until midnight or later planning for what each student is going to need the next day I am energetic because I know that each one of my students has the potential to become a successful contributing member of our society. These materials will help ensure that all of my students develop a solid foundation in mathematical problem solving which will follow them throughout school and beyond.
