This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with an incredible group of 10th grade students in an urban school district. My students are energetic and engaged learners, and they love to collaborate with one another and to discuss their ideas. My students constantly reflect on their academic work, their contributions to the school community, and their work ethic. My students come from low income backgrounds, and for them school is a safe environment where they can grow as scholars, citizens, and community members.

Diverse students deserve opportunities to engage with diverse perspectives and curriculum.

My Project

Each Friday my students spend the block reading books of their choice. My students have diverse and varied interests and the texts in this project will help refresh and improve our classroom library for this group of students and for many years to come!

Independent reading builds a love of reading and the skills necessary for my students to be confident and critical citizens.

These books were chosen carefully with the feedback from my current and former students about what gets them excited to check out a book. Together we can refresh our ever growing classroom library and ensure all students find the book for them!
