Refresh Our Library With a Flood of Diverse German Books!
Help me give my students a refreshed classroom library of German books for free choice reading, with choices like Heartstopper in German, books covering the events of World War 2 in simplified language, and many more diverse reads!
Every day, students in my German classes start class by reading for 5-10 minutes in German. All research points to Free Choice Reading having powerful effects in every domain where students have expressed desire to improve: grammar, vocabulary, sentences structure, you name it! Free Choice Reading is effective, efficient, and my students love it. The only problem we're running into now: some of my students have read all the books! The library I have put together over the years is feeling smaller and smaller.
Your donation will help increase the variety of books in my classroom, making it more likely that my students will find the book that works for them.
The books I have chosen for this project are written with the L2 learner in mind, tightly controlling vocabulary so as not to overwhelm the reader, without sacrificing our very human need for good stories. Help us get books that will create a world of thoughtful, multilingual people!
