Help me give my students the replacement items to refill our resources for the Maker Space. We need consumables such as paints, stamp pads, ink, scissors to replace dull ones and new calligraphy pens.
We are an urban International Baccalaureate 5th through 8th grade middle school. We have a population of 535 students. We have a wide diversity of students, some of whom don't have access to craft and creating supplies due to financial needs elsewhere within their home lives.
The entire student population has access to the Maker Space throughout the school day with plenty of opportunity for creativity and inventing.
Our "good" problem is that we are in our 4th year and need to restock our supplies. We want to be able to keep the momentum up for using the Maker Space and not let a lack of supplies create a void in the interest in the Maker Space. This funding will be a terrific way to continue to meet the creative outlets of our students.
My Project
Our Maker Space is in its fourth year, and our resources have dwindled. This problem is both good and bad because it means that our students have used the Maker Space on a regular basis, but our consumable supplies are running low or have run out altogether.
Calligraphy has become a popular skill, so we need new pens and replacement ink cartridges.
Calligraphy is not only an art skill but a way to cultivate self-management. It is a calming skill, if you will, requiring concentration and patience.
Our scissors have gotten too dull to cut paper without shredding it. We also want to increase our bead creations with elastic black cord for bracelets and bookmarks. This is especially true at this time of year because of upcoming holidays.
For some of our students, this is the chance to create a handmade gift. Our stamps pads are completely out and our paint supply is literally scraping the bottom of the tubes. Creating greeting cards is also highly popular at this time of year through Mother's Day. All students, boys and girls, 5th through 8th grade, use these resources.
There is a real concern that a lack of supplies will result in a lack of interest in coming to the Maker Space. We need to keep the momentum up so that students continue to utilize the Maker Space, continuing to explore their creativity.
