In today's world of diversity, it is important to deliver quality literature to students about the suffering others have gone through and continue going through simply by living in hostile circumstances. The students will participate in deep reading, critical thinking, and fact-based technological inquiry to accompany Refugee by Alan Gratz. By studying this book, students will not only be informed, they will share their observations with others by hosting a student-led book club meeting. That way, the momentum for reading the book will grow. Your generous donation to the project of a class set of Refugee by Alan Gratz will not only put this informative historical novel in the hands of each student in the class, but will also provide an opportunity for sharing with others in school and in the community at large. Three of the books will go on our library shelf. The rest will be dispersed to 'book deserts' in our community. As an integral part of the program, the students go into the community to provide books to areas that are affected by a lack of ready access to literature. These books are usually collected by book drives and like in this case, donations. Thank you!
