This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you grew something? Or have you ever experienced the thrill of producing your own food? I want that for my students.

My students are very eager learners who crave science.

I work at a Title 1 school where all the students are receiving free breakfast and over 80% are receiving free or reduced lunch. Our school consist of over 90% minority students and our main focus is to get them reading on or above grade level.

My Project

I am requesting a worm composting kit. Our school recycles of course paper, but I want my students to realize that scraps of food can be recycled, reused, and reduced with the help of worms into nutrient rich soil for planting. I am also requesting a plant viewing so that my students can see the steps a plant goes through. A lot of my students do not know where our vegetables come from and how fulfilling is to plant and harvest your own food. Another kit I want them to explore is how pollution effects our plants. We always hear about water pollution, but never the effect we have on plants. I want them to research and present a public announcement of their findings to the school using the iPad. Maybe they can inspire others to plant gardens and change how we interact with our environment.

With the help of Disney and your donation, we can inspire future horticulturalist.

You will inspire my students to protect, preserve, and promote better care of our planet through recycling, reducing and reusing our resources.
