Ms. Flora from Jersey City NJ is requesting lab equipment through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

My students are all incredible kids. They are all special education and special needs, but those are not the things that make them special. Each of these individuals has a mind for science and a contribution to make to the scientific world. Their ingenuity is exceptional and their thirst for learning unquenchable.
That said, my students do reside in a poor urban area that is grossly underfunded and lacking even the most basic of needs.
Your donation would support students who would benefit the most. Please help them learn and grow!
This year, my Environmental Science and Biology students have worked diligently to create a more sustainable environment within our high school. Using a program called Eco-School, these kids have performed rigorous audits of the school building in an effort to identify ways to improve our ecological footprint. One of the major contributions our school makes to its impact on the environment is the total lack of recycling any of our waste.
To combat this issue, my Eco-School kids have designed a greenhouse they plan to build out of plastic bottles and other recycled materials.
The composter and composting materials will give students a safe and reliable place to compost food wastes for our greenhouse. They will be taught to manage their own compost both in the classroom and at home using red wiggler worms. We will learn about these dynamic organisms, their importance for our soil, and how to care for them. This bin will be used year after year to support our sustainable food garden.
Furthermore, my students will learn the benefits of harvesting their own clean water. Unfortunately, the school my students attend has extremely contaminated tap water - the situation is so bad that the only source of clean water is water coolers.
The rain barrels will be used to collect rainwater. We want clean water to help keep our greenhouse plants happy and our students healthy.
My students have researched this project entirely on their own. They have developed leadership and public speaking skills, explored their ecological footprints, driven their own project-based learning, and so much more. Their knowledge of their personal environmental impact has increased substantially. Supporting this project supports a fully student-led, student driven environmental goal that will help to foster future generations of environmentally conscious citizens.
