I teach and coach robotics to an inspiring, forward thinking group of junior high students. My students are happier to come to school and more excited to learn about science with cutting edge technology. They love sharing what they know with their families and our community. I am always looking for new ways to engage my students both in and out of the classroom.
My students are given many opportunities to engage in hands-on robotics and engineering projects.
Our small rural school district is in Southwest Ohio housed in a building that is almost 100 years old. Some of my students are learning in the same classrooms that their parents and grandparents did and that makes our school a comfortable place for families to gather.
My Project
I have put together an engineering challenge student teams can only dream about. Teams we be tasked to design a parachute and a space capsule that will house and be able to safely land Sphero on Mars.
After landing, Sphero will need to be able to exit the student designed capsule and be remotely guided by the team back on Earth to find its way to its pre-determined location on our Giant Mars map.
Our Map of Mars is 40 x 40 feet across and it will take teamwork and precise planning and design in building the capsule, the planned exiting from the capsule and then the remote driving through student pre-coding of Sphero to make its mark on the future habitation of Mars.
