This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a school of achievers. Our school motto is “choose excellence”. I see students in my classroom everyday pushing themselves to do their best and reach their full potential. We are a title one school with students coming from many different ethic backgrounds and coming from a variety of different feeder schools. They enter my class often not even knowing what they are capable of until they see their completed projects. I’ve heard them say, “I USED to think I wasn’t good at art” and their minds have been changed!

My Project

My students do a variety of ceramic clay projects throughout the year. We start with basic hand building techniques in the beginning classes and work our way up to throwing on the potters wheel. Clay is such a versatile medium to work with. Students learn about to form three dimensional objects and vessels. We also do a lot of conceptual projects where the students have to use their imagination to convey meaning in their art work. Having a pugmill would make it so much easier to use and recycle clay and stretch it farther to get us through the school year.
